Abstract

The mechanism of the S-N bond formation in the reaction betweent thiazolyl disulphide and morpholine has been studied. Most of the reactions were performed in aqueous suspension of thiazolyl disulfphides witth sodium hypochlorite and morpholine. It was confirmed that the S-N bond formation in the reaction between morpholine and thiazolyl disulphide is not a two-steps , SN1 like reaction, and that the heterolytic breking of the S-S bond in disulphide is not the first step of the reaction. The S-N bond formation can be explained as nucleophilic substitution of di–coordinated sulphur assisted by the effect of the electrophile. In the first step of the reaction, the electrophilic sepcies attacks the disulphide bond forming a complex which undergoes nucleophilic attack by morpholine. The structure of the complex and the transition state for nuclophilic displacement at the di-coordinated sulphur atom are given, according to the „ three atoms in line“ (S,N,N) theory.
