Abstract

Large migrations in cities, overcrowded city neighborhoods affect the reduced quality and comfort of living. One of the ways out of these environmental problems, such as climate change and environmental disasters, is the concept of green construction, which is fundamentally different from the usual construction trend. Nowadays, there is an increasing need for energysustainable construction that reduces the negative impact on the environment, where buildings use a minimum of energy, and some even produce it. In order to meet these conditions, a high quality of construction and the use of materials are required, which lead to unlimited architectural solutions. This type of sustainable construction is, among other things, the socalled green construction. Green roof systems are becoming increasingly popular, they are relatively inexpensive to install and maintain. They look beautiful and give a gentle and calm environment, the appearance of a meadow in the exterior of a modern home, and at the same time they participate in solving the problem of climate change. The paper describes the characteristics of green roofs as one of the components of green construction, and their impact on the environment.
