Driver assistance technologies have the potential to reduce the number of traffic accidents and to save many lives. 20,600 people died in traffic accidents on the roads of the European Union in 2022, and 222 people died on the roads of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of those accidents are caused by human error, about 90%. New technologies in the vehicle primarily help to protect the driver and passengers while driving, as well as other road users. Some are designed to warn the driver of a potential collision, while others are designed to take specific actions to avoid a collision. Mostly, it is talking about advanced driver assistance systems that are increasingly present in new vehicles. These systems aim to provide greater safety benefits and a higher level of safe driving. In this paper, on a selected sample of vehicles, the results of the research are presented with the aim of learning about the equipment, the way and extent of using advanced systems and their impact on driving safety. The collected data was processed by using an appropriate computer program, and certain hypotheses were verified using the chi-square test. The obtained results indicate the potential of significant impact of advanced systems on driving safety, but also the need for driver education and training on how to use such systems while driving a vehicle.
