The management of the water supply system involves the regular control of losses in the system and their regular elimination. In our bh. practice, unfortunately this problem is not given attention. There are two main reasons, ignorance and lack of money. Modern procedures for fault research are increasingly present, but water utilities have a lot of unsettled documentation, from the lack of a cadastre to the lack of a correct hydraulic system calculation. In such a situation, it is usually a matter of exploring new springs and injecting additional quantities of water, making the fault situation even worse. According to the World Bank, unpaid water should be less than 25%, the European Union has stricter criteria - losses should not be more than 15%. Countries like Germany, Denmark and Japan have losses below 10%, Croatia and Italy report about 42% losses, while some African countries have losses up to 80%. Water losses are a pervasive problem in water systems and as such cannot be completely ruled out. However, they can be reduced, which requires regular and quality network maintenance.
