Abstract

This study analyzes the self-reported behavior of pupils aged 6-9 years, while crossing the pedestrian crossing. The behavior of children in real traffic situations in most cases unsafe. Method questionnaire were examined children in three schools in the municipality of Samac, Republic of Srpska. A total of 249 pupils, aged 6-9 years, from first to fourth grade. Children females rarely pay attention when crossing the pedestrian crossing than male children. Furthermore, older children pay more attention when crossing the pedestrian crossing than younger children. Also, children who lives in the rural places, less pay attention to traffic than children who live in the city. Countries in transition are at a low level of traffic safety due to the lack of sufficient financial investment. For this reason, a way of educating childrens in traffic through preschool and school institutions is one of the main long-term directions for improvement of traffic safety.
