Abstract

This paper studies the issue of analysing the causes of road traffic accidents and presents a detailed example of how an expert analysis is carried out. During judicial proceeding, a court expert performs and provides his/her written assessment and views regarding the circumstances under which an accident occurred. The study is exemplified with a real-life
accident involving two cars. The accident took place at night, in fair weather, on dry and spotless asphalt. The expert examination described the dynamics of the accident causes, including all relevant parameters that were necessary to fully define the drivers' faults which affected the course of the accident, ranging from the calculation of kinetic parameters to the ability of mutual identification on the critical stretch of the road. It is worthwhile to notice that the critical time and space provided both drivers with enough chances to avoid the road accident, including intensive braking reaction and wheel steering reaction.
