In the period of post-socialist transition, there was a whole system of antiinstitutional and quasi-institutional factors in force. From the aspect of development these factors had a hindering and destructive character. For that reason, they had a very negative impact on economic growth. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the importance of positive institutional and structural changes in the long run, as without them it is not possible to speak about economic development at all. The aforementioned factors had a direct and synergy effect on the generation of an institutional vacuum (in the early stage of transition), and afterwards on the long-term conglomerated unsystematic approaches. This paper starts from the basic assumption that under the impact of the quasi-monistic institutional economic policy of the quasi-neo-liberal type a phenomenon occurred that could conditionally be called institutional nihilism. The “side” hypothesis used is that through the idea of institutional nihilism it is possible to explain some of the main causes of unsuccessful post-socialist transition. This paper attempts to prove the existence of the mentioned phenomenon by giving various examples in several fields. Methodological, descriptive and logical analyses of the mentioned examples verify the basic and the side hypotheses.
