Abstract

Headway or distance between vehicles represents the path which the overtaking  vehicle has to cross when performing the act of overtaking. Depending on the theoretical  model of distance succession during the calculation indirectly or affects the length of time  overtaking or overtaking visibility In majority of models which are well known in the theory  of traffic flow, the length of time of passing is the function of the timing the action of overtaking, speed of the vehicle being overtaken, or the difference between their speed. When calculating distances succession the value of parameters on which the calculation is done is constant. For this reason, very often the value of distance succession at the start and end times of  overtaking does not correspond to the real characteristics of traffic flow. This paper presents  the results of analysis of the distances between the succession of vehicles at the start time of  overtaking in real traffic flow, at the sections of two-directional, two-lane roads.
