The paper deals with waste management based on aspects of the circular economy and environmental protection. Large amounts of waste are generated in the world every day due to urbanization, technological development and the increase in human population. The development of modern society has conditioned the production of new, more sophisticated products, and thus the production of more and more types of waste, the properties and characteristics of which are unknown. Man, with his uncontrolled and irresponsible behavior, produces the largest amount of waste that can have a harmful effect on the environment and human health. This paper deals with a possible way of waste management, elements and approach to waste management, definition and properties of waste, explanation of the concept of circular economy as well as its application in the waste management system. Modern waste management is a set of activities, decisions and measures aimed at preventing the generation of waste, reducing the amount of waste generated and the possible harmful impact on the environment and human health. The law on waste management, which is based on European Union directives, prescribes competence and obligations in waste management with the aim of a circular economy, which leads to efficient waste management.
