This paper aims to show how modern technology affects to the development of trade sector, and thus to other sectors such as manufacturing, environmental protection and so on. We will show the results of research in the use of modern information technology in retail sector in BiH as the main carriers of modern trade development in BiH. Trade area is facing major challenges such as increased competition in the domestic market, concentration and acquisitions, new technologies, new forms of retail, e-commerce and globalization. In the future, modern stores in addition to high-tech support in the shop, will have to make a breakthrough at the location of the customer. We need to put a special emphasis on the importance of internet technology itself and the computerization of modern stores that will be the main carriers of development and the creation of competitive advantage in this sector. The introduction of new technologies such as NFC and RFID technology will greatly contribute to improving service to the end customer and thus will gain a competitive advantage and increase the trade. The research results will be shown how the BiH retail chains use modern information technology, and thus the internet or mobile technology, and how they are on this aspect competitive in the global marketplace.
