Abstract

The World Bank's analysis says that the economies of the Western Balkan countries should grow at least 6% per year, all with the goal of reaching the European Union average by the end of the fourth decade of this century. The facts are currently speaking against this tendency, where the gap deepens in almost all economic parameters. After a decade without growth, today the growth rate of economies in these countries is barely three percent a year. Thus, the unification of the economies necessary for the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law can not be achieved. At the same time, this is a condition for accessing the EU. For all economists in the candidate countries and all parties in the process of joining the Union, strengthening of local economies is a very important and necessary condition. Otherwise, if we are economically unprepared, the entire process of accession to the European Union represents a real threat, and not an opportunity, for the local economies of the Western Balkan countries.
