Abstract

Centralized district heating system, has always been recognized in the world as a form of energy for heating, with a very high level of environmental protection. This paper analyzes the current state of the central heating system in the city of Banja Luka. It was concluded that the Banja Luka heating system, which is in operation for over 40 years, is
outdated and worn and as such is economically unsustainable. Following are some specific recommendations for improvements in order to save energy, reducing heat losses, reducing fuel consumption and reducing harmful emissions into the environment. Complete modernization of central heating systems would contribute to saving about 27% in fuel
consumption, 93% water consumption and 70% in power consumption. For the implementation and modernization of central heating system is necessary a long time, significant efforts and financial resources. The activities related to energy efficiency are extremely challenging and complex, therefore require a systematic approach by the state or local authorities. It was concluded, that the administrative support to the implementation of energy efficiency measures and monitoring of the environmental protection in the city of Banja Luka is still not at a satisfactory level.
