Abstract

Gender equality, understood both as a legal obligation and a social value, represents one of the key prerequisites for economic development and stability. Laws that guarantee equal rights, protect against discrimination, and ensure equal opportunities in education, employment, and career advancement create an institutional framework in which women and men can participate equally in all spheres of social life. However, formal equality is not sufficient unless accompanied by broader social support—changing deeply rooted gender stereotypes, ensuring a fair distribution of household and family responsibilities, and increasing the presence of women in decision-making processes. When gender equality is genuinely achieved, societies benefit from better utilization of the overall labour force, higher productivity and innovation, and reduced poverty risks, particularly among vulnerable groups. Active participation of women in the economy increases household income, contributes to a more stable labour market, and supports long-term GDP growth. Societies with higher levels of gender equality also demonstrate stronger social cohesion, more resilient institutions, and greater economic stability. For these reasons, gender equality is not only a matter of justice and human rights but also one of the most important factors of sustainable and stable societal development.
