Abstract

The opencut mine "Šićki Brod" of the Kreka Mine ended the exploitation of coal in 1987. In the abandoned crater, using the underground water sources, Lake "Kop" Šićki Brod was formed. Nature hastaken its course and made sure that the lake and the area around it are enriched with flora and fauna. The Assembly of Tuzla Canton (TC) adopted the spatial plan of TC until the year 2025, thus making the decision that the lake will not be a heap of slag and ash from the Thermal Power Plant (TPP) Tuzla but a sports and recreation center. Despite that, the leaders of the TPP Tuzla and the Public Company Elektroprivreda BiH Sarajevo do not give up on their intention to make this place a heapof slag and ash, although there are already two landfills situated above thesettlement, which pollute the air in the same way as the exhaust gases from TPP Tuzla.
