Abstract

The authors of this paper analyze the significance of decorative stone in Herzegovina. They recognize that this resource, as a natural gift, has the great importance for economic development to the region of Herzegovina and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Unfortunately, the attitude towards this resource is unacceptable. The road to obtaining concessions for exploration and exploitation is very long and thorny. Stone processors are forced to import decorative stone which is unacceptable. Instead of Bosnia and Herzegovina exports of decorative stone, this activity is dependent on imports under very adverse conditions, with very high transportation costs and cash outflow. It also prompted the authors to draw attention to this extraordinary resource and try to change attitudes towards the same. Thanks to this resource authors at the European Conference on Building Materials, held in 2003, the Herzegovina region called Nera Etva, which translates from the Celtic language means God's gift.
