The traditional method of monitoring and evaluating the situation of traffic safety based solely on data on road accidents and the consequences of accidents. For this reason, this approach is not human. Incidentally, it is the first to occur of a traffic accident and then to analyze the cause of the same and the like. It is not the goal and is not popular in the world. The aims are to establish a system of periodic monitoring of the causes of traffic accidents. This is achieved through continued work on the measurement and analysis of traffic safety indicators. This approach is much more humane because they do not "wait" for the traffic accident occurs, it tends to "preempt". Therefore, the paper describes the modern approach, defined the primary indicators that should be monitored at the level of each local community. Presents the results of measurements of one of the indicators of traffic safety, especially with respect to the use of seat belts while driving. The survey was conducted indicators mentioned in the Republic of Srpska in all five centers for public safety. It is essential that local communities establish a process of periodic recording of selected indicators, in order to monitor and evaluate the work of individual subjects in key areas and to plan and direct the implementation of optimal countermeasures, in order to achieve the defined goals of traffic safety.
