SAOBRAĆAJ I EKOLOGIJA U KONCEPTU ODRŽIVOG URBANOG RAZVOJA/ TRAFFIC AND ECOLOGY IN THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Environment today came under the influence of unclean technologies, heavy and uncontrolled traffic, and other impacts, which hardly affects the balance of nature and threatening the lives of people. Industrialization and the development of new technologies have significantly influenced the degradation of the environment. The environment is  endangered at every step, and that greatly contribute to the means of transport, which in  different ways and to different degrees create some environmental issues with major or minor consequences. The greatest threat to the environment of the means of transport is expressed through air pollution and noise. Mismatch of major technological changes that have improved the living conditions of a large part of humanity, the social development seriously harmed the  environment of people, with many contributed to the rapid development of transportation.  Population growth, increased urbanization and the increase in volume of traffic on a daily  basis leading to increasing pollution and noise in cities, and, consequently, in residential  areas. It is therefore of great importance to the idea of sustainable development, which refers  to development that improves the long-term and ecological health of cities and towns and that means long-term maintenance of quality of life in the city, in all three observed dimensions -environmental, social and economic
