Abstract

Railway crossings (RC) are places where a roadways crossover a railway lines, more exactly it is a crossing place of a roadway and the upper edge of a rails that are located in the same plane. Due to the great speed distinction of road and rail vehicles and their masses and braking distances, RC are places of frequent physical contact and collisions of vehicles. RC are provided with two ways of safety, the active and the passive safety with a view to maximize the safety of traffic on the RC. In Federation of B&H, RC have low level of safety due to the great number of RC (total 195) and because of inadequate security at the RC. This paper is going to the current state of safety and to suggest the measures to increase safety at RC in the Federation of B&H.
