Abstract

The work emphasizes the necessity of apposite inclusion of transport segment in an attempt to determine the most effective and most significant mitigation measures and approaches in urban areas. The current center of attention of adopted local authorities’ policies is mainly to reduce the global warming potential at national level, focused predominantly on
energy efficiency of the buildings and power production from biomass and hydropower, leaving the issue of sustainable transport out, other than main infrastructure projects. At the same time, transport issues in the cities and urban areas in general remain inadequately investigated, what is particularly important given the significance of the increasing intensity of pollutant emissions originating from transport. The effects of two GHG emissions mitigation scenarios are analyzed with municipalities of Eastern Sarajevo in focus, in line with to date demographic and social developments incorporated in the study based on a model in Long-range energy alternative planning modeling (LEAP) software, thus giving insight, correlation and feasibility of reduction of global warming potential, with possible leads to implementation of strategies in similar urban environments.
