Abstract

In urban areas with high population density commercial vehicles create major problems (congestion, air pollution, noise, etc.).The European Union dealswith this problemintensively, so the limit values of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions tightens every year. Harmonization of legislation for countries in transitionrequiresadjustment of their targets to EU targets. This can be achieved by implementation of appropriate measures. Negative environmental impact of freight transport can be eliminated or mitigated with various logistics concepts implementation. Better utilisation of load capacity, enabled by freight consolidation, should contribute to freight transport environmental impact. In this paper we proposea solution for freight consolidation. Data for freight flows characteristics are collected with questionnaire survey. The aim of the study is to determine the impact of consolidation decisions on reaching the targets set to reducenegative environmental impact of transport. The results of this paper should encourage the consolidation of freight flows, because it can contribute to achieve the transport environmental impact targets.
