UDS ( Unfall Daten Speicher ) or EDR ( Event Data Recorder ) is a device that records and stores data and events in a given time frame . Popularly called black box, continuously captures data speed, time, distance, direction, longitudinal and transverse acceleration, status of lights and airbags, brake activation, etc., and it did not enter wider application because of the resistance from the car industry and its interests that are in conflict with the device. The application is achieved especially in official vehicles of city governments, government agencies, police, ambulance, etc. The main objective of the device, the data and events in a given time (usually in a car accident) is indisputable and that really gives great results. Also, it minimizes the possibility of manipulation. With UDS binds often linked question the legality of its installation
and use of data. The legal aspect of its implementation has been one of the biggest obstacles to its wider use, but also the reason why manufacturers leave the option of deleting data. For vehicles of state administration and similar cases, where the driver is not also the owner of the vehicle, and where the owner wants control of the driver and the vehicle that option is removed. In future we certainly expect greater use of this system.
