One of the major motives for this research is to show that in Bosnia and Herzegovina exists a will, knowledge, and the professional people who can follow European trends in terms of modern technologies in traffic. The work is educational in character and aims to spread the knowledge of tachographs and raise awareness of the important role of that recording device. The research is based on long experience of the author on work with tachographs, continuous inflow of information by representatives of tachograph manufacturer VDO for South Eastern Europe, the exchange of information and opinions with successful repairers of tachographs in Bosnia, and officially published data by the regulatory authorities. This research shows the genesis of the development of the tachograph in Bosnia and reveals the current position where it is now, points to the issues and obstacles of further technological development and use of the opportunities that this recording device allows, the employer uses and the law prescribes. The significance of this work is warning to the reader-listener to quickly take things in terms of adapting to our legislation and the one of EU, the adoption of new and advanced technologies in order to avoid violation of the law and the payment of penalties both in the international and domestic traffic
