This paper analyzes the main economic trends in the municipality of Kakanj, with a particular focus on the impact of industrial, energy, and mining activities on the environment. It presents the structure of the local economy, the dominant industrial sectors, and the dynamics of their development in recent years. Special attention is given to environmental protection challenges, including air, water, and soil quality, as well as the measures implemented to reduce negative
impacts on the ecosystem. The paper provides an overview of relevant legal and strategic documents, local initiatives, and examples of good practice. The aim is to offer an integrated approach that balances economic growth and environmental sustainability, and to provide guidelines for future development planning in the municipality of Kakanj in accordance with the principles of sustainable development
