IT audit plays a crucial technical role in supporting the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkan countries into the economic, legal, and media systems of the European Union. Through the application of IT audit, the security, integrity, and interoperability of digital systems are ensured, as well as compliance with standards such as COBIT, ISO/IEC 27001, and ISACA guidelines. In economic integrations, the audit covers the security of electronic transactions, data encryption, and POS system verification, while in legal integrations it examines server infrastructure, digital signatures, and access logs. In media integrations, the focus is on the security of CMS systems, network infrastructure, and the prevention of
information manipulation. IT audit operates not only reactively but also proactively, enhancing the digital resilience of institutions. Recommendations include strengthening technical expertise, standardizing IT systems, and continuously evaluating digital infrastructure. The study emphasizes that the technical application of IT audit enables reliable digital connectivity, transparency, and security, thereby contributing to the successful integration of the region into
the European digital space.
