Abstract

The current global energy crisis caused an increase in the prices of all energy products in Serbia, including pellets. The sudden increase in demand and the price of pellets caused the Government of the Republic of Serbia to ban the export of pellets abroad for three months in September 2022, in order to stabilize the energy market. The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of pellets as fuel, in the territory of the city of Šabac and the municipality of Bogatić, as a function of sustainable development. The total number of producers and sellers in both territories was identified, and they were surveyed in order to estimate the average number of users of pellets as fuel. Based on the information obtained, the authors conclude that the production and sale of pellets in the first two quarters of 2022 increased by more than 30%, compared to the previous four-year period. It is estimated that the growth trend will continue in the coming years, since users are becoming more environmentally conscious and oriented towards the use of renewable energy sources for heating.
