Abstract

World energy consumption will grow significantly, up to 40% in the next two decades. The growth of energy needs, accompanied by economic development, contributes to the general well-being of society. However, fossil energy sources are not inexhaustible and their use has a significant negative impact on the environment.Of all renewable energy sources in Serbia, which include hydro energy, energy from biomass, wind, solar and geothermal sources, biomass has the greatest available potential, with about 61% share, and its importance is especially great in the agricultural sector. According to experts, investments in projects implementing the potential of biomass for heating energy in the regions of Serbia will be a priority in taking steps towards adopting European Union energy standards and, on the other hand, a big step towards clean, green energy and environmental protection.
