Abstract

The development of urban environments, with all aspects of the impact of economic and social life, creates a completely new role for public passenger transport. The development of information technologies and smartphones has opened a new field for research and application in public passenger transport. There is an initiative to open data about city transport in many cities in the world. A large amount of information about public passenger transport can be collected with the use of new technologies. These data could be used for technological innovations and for innovations in the public transport system operations. According to several authors, the efficiency of public transport system depends on traffic planning, transport operators organization and transport policy. On the other hand, the efficiency of public transport system also depends on the system, technology and innovations in public passenger transport. A transport operator, who provides complete information about his services on the internet, will be competitive on the market, but also more successful in the business.
