Abstract

Traffic accidents on roads in the Republic of Croatia are defined by the Traffic Safety Act. The most common reasons for the emergence of traffic accidents are the use of cell phones while driving, disregard for traffic regulations and rules, driving under the influence of alcohol and unsuitable driving speed. Socio-demographic profile of the participants has been analyzed by the common set of characteristics, such as age, sex and nationality, with respect to the feature and the seriousness of the injury to the participants and to the place of occuring. In this study, we analyzed the data about the injured in traffic accidents and we displayed index on continuous year basis and their respective rates of change at the territory of the Republic of Croatia for the period from 2011 up to 2016. The number of traffic accidents over the past few years has been in decline (except in the year 2015) due to high-quality prevention and warning systems on the reasons of occurrence and possible consequences of accidents. The goal is that by 2020 the number of deceased persons will have been reduced by 50% in relation to the current situation.
