Abstract

Sustainability, as one of the most prevalent global themes, sets new demands and challenges for companies, academics and states to tackle the ever-growing problems caused by companies' operations through pollution and waste. One of the right solutions is the concept of circular economy which brings the proposals of new models for managing companies that achieve not only economic, but also social and environmental benefits. In this paper, three concepts of the circular economy are explained in more detail: industrial symbiosis, closed loop and model from cradle to cradle. These concepts are more and more relevant because they have found successful application in the practice of numerous European and world countries, and certainly provide the right guidelines for developing countries such as BiH to start thinking about circular economy as a solution to achieve better competitiveness, exports to the EU, expanding employment and achieving long-term sustainability.
