Economic and social development contributed, inter alia, to rais awareness of the importance of environment protection and establishing a sustainable development policy. Bearing in mind the significant correlation between transport and economic development, as well as the notable impact on the environment, transport has been recognized as an important factor of sustainable development. Strategic transportation management model is presented in this paper. The model represents a comprehensive and complete strategic management process, beginning from the strategic analysis, than strategy formulation and its implementation to strategic control. One of the specifity of this model is the development of its phases by using new strategic management methods and techniques. In this way, subjectivity is avoided and decision making process is impartial. Further, the model enables strategies formulation based on scientific principles and creation of conditions for the successful sustainable strategies implementation.
