Abstract

The development of gunpowder with certain energy performances has initiated the usage and production of various additives with which the desired performance of rocket fuels and engines has been obtained. Azido-nitramines are the most frequently used among additives added to propellant mixtures. Additives of this class of compounds reduce the temperature of the flame that burns during combustion of gunpowder without reducing the speed of combustion. In addition, azido-nitramines reduce molecular weight of product that combusts. This class of compounds also include the 1,5-diazide-3-Nitraza pentane (abbreviated DIANP), whose labaratory synthesis is described in this paper.
