Abstract

This paper shall, aided by the professional knowledge and experiences in the field of horticulture, represent a GIS technology in the processes of management of urban green areas. Because of constant increase in agglomeration and related processes of degradation of the environmental conditions, it became necessary to establish the monitoring system of
actual condition of urban green areas. Namely, in order to dominate over something, we need to know the answer to two different questions (i) “What do we own?” and (ii) “Where is it located?”. Within the framework of urban green areas, it is necessary to identify all of the contents – elements (horticultural, architectural and building) as well as their attributes, which
would provide the answer to question (i). The answer to the question (ii) might be acquired through the usage of GIS technologies, which, as a spatial database defines spatial references of any and every content – element. Without precise and fast review of condition of all contents in public green areas, it is impossible to make quality and timely decisions related to all segments of public green areas management of a certain administrative area.
