The Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established by the FB&H Parliament, through the Law on Health Care, as an institution of special importance for the implementation of the secondary and tertiary level of public health activity. Due to market competitiveness, recognition of analysis reports in EU and region, as well as credibility in the results of the analysis, the accreditation of the laboratory is defined as obligation. Compliance with the requirements of the standard BAS EN ISO 17025: 2006 is applicable only within the Health Ecology Department, among three testing laboratories whose primary activity is chemical and microbiological testing of water and food. The aim of this paper is to describe the entire procedure for accreditation of testing laboratories, placed at two locations, Sarajevo and Mostar, from the procurement of necessary equipment, the change of internal organisation, technical adjustments of the working space, the development of quality system and standard operating procedures (SOP), their implementation up to the compliance evaluation by review on spot performed by Institute for Accreditation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The scope of the accreditation covers 21 methods at both locations. In this way, the laboratory confirmed its competence and ensured the results of its testing.
