Abstract

The number of employees in Croatian transportation system has been decreasing steadily. In 2012, there was a drop of 40% compared to 1987, the record year for the number of employed within the system. Furthermore, it is clear that their share in the total number of the employed is in constant decline as well. Between 1987 and 2012, the share of transport employed people in the total number of the employed dropped from 7.9% to 5.4%. These negative trends are only being reinforced in times of recession. In addition to this, the fact is that expanding industries belong to the service sector and that the times when the percentages of gross domestic product and employment within the transportation system were in direct functional dependency are long gone. It is no wonder that the question of sustainability of transport related employment in the 21st century arises on its own. To study rules and regulations prevailing between natural dynamic indicators of transport related work and transport related employees, statistical method of correlation analysis was used. The period included in analysis was set from 1990 to 2012. The obtained results contribute to scientifically based perception of sustainability of transport related employment.
