The paper explores the current status of legal and economic regulation of cryptocurrencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkan countries, in the context of alignment with European standards and values. Special focus is placed on regulatory challenges, money laundering risks, and tax policy, as well as the potential that digital assets hold for the digital
transformation of financial markets in the region. Through a comparative analysis with EU legislation (particularly the MiCA regulation), the paper proposes possible directions for developing an institutional framework to integrate the crypto market into the European legal and economic space.
