The subject of research of importance for this work is the importance of railways in the intermodal transport of goods in containers on the transport freight corridor Vb (RH2) as one of the most important railway transport corridors in the Republic of Croatia. The aim of the work is to determine the condition of the railway infrastructure on the Vb (RH2) corridor and the existing limitations to faster development and full affirmation of intermodal transport of goods in containers on the Rijeka transport route. Investments in the modernization of the existing railway infrastructure and the construction of a new railway would largely serve the purpose of improving intermodal transport on the Rijeka transport route, as well as the economic development of the Republic of Croatia. Scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, descriptive method, induction and deduction method and comparative method were used in the paper. The research results are based on secondary data.
