Abstract

In this paper the technological development of commercial aircraft of the twenty[1]first century is discussed. The development will be based on defining the needs of the services market and the way they are met. The following requirements are in focus: (1) lower costs - greater convenience of transport, (2) higher capacity of the air transport system, (3) reduction of negative environmental impacts, (5) increased safety in air traffic and transportation, and (5) better performance of the aircraft. In response to these requirements, technical and technological generic disciplines are defined which should contribute to the realization of development goals: aerodynamics, propulsion, new materials and structures, avionics and control, and cognitive engineering.
