The importance of public transport in the life of every individual is indisputable, and even more in the social and economic development. At the beginning of the third millennium, it is impossible to imagine conducting basic and economic activities without the transport of goods and passengers, i.e. without the use of cars and other modern means of transport. However, the expansion of road transport is accompanied by a large number of casualties and significant material damage. And so incurred a new and almost unsolvable problem of modern times, as well as requirements to the attainment of modern technical achievements in traffic and that its rapid running, while the number of accidents and victims reduced to the lowest possible level. The authors discuss current problems of endangerment to public transport, especially road transport in Republic of Serbia. With the analysis of data on the number of victims and the circumstances that have caused negative phenomena in road transport, will be presented a comprehensive picture of this phenomenon.A special emphasis will be in operation on criminal policy as one of the conditions for the prevention of traffic delinquency, which is normally considered to be mild on the perpetrators of crimes in the sphere of traffic safety.
