Abstract

In investigating traffic accidents in most countries, it is considered that the main cause of their events is the negligence and mistakes of the driver as well as the malfunction of the vehicle, while the road with its elements is not given proper importance regardless of the inadequate construction of the road network. By identifying the relevant types of accidents and bringing them in a comparative relationship with the quantified disadvantages of the considered road section it is possible to identify the relevant deficiencies which are the most likely causes of accidents, which is essentially the ultimate goal of the road to traffic safety and the environment.
