Abstract

Data on the quality of air in Bosnia and Herzegovina are mainly unsystematized or unavailable. Most air pollutants result from industrial activities, and significantly from the traffic. Before the 90s, the industries significantly polluted the air. During the unfortunate events in BiH, most of the industrial sectors stopped working and they haven‘t reached the desirable level of production yet. It is expected that the air pollution may be lesser than in the 90s, although there are no certain and exact data on the present quality of air in BiH. Clean air is a foundation of healthy life and the entire eco system. When technological processes in factories are in progress, harmful substances pollute the work environment, and due to the obsolete air treatment technologies and low maintenance level of the existing systems, the released substances easily access the environment, which significantly contribute to the disfavourable image of ecology and health. This paper shows the quality of air in several industrial centres in general and the status of the air quality monitoring system in BiH.
