The results of the assessment show that the implementation of the Waste Management Strategy does not proceed with the desired dynamics, despite the significant measures that have been taken in recent years in the area of establishing a waste management system. Key steps include the development and improvement of measures for the establishment of an integrated waste management system, the application of economic instruments, further integration of environmental policies into other sectoral policies, acceptance of greater individual environmental responsibility and more active public participation in decision-making processes. Waste management strategy is the basic document, which provides conditions for rational and sustainable waste management. The strategy must be supported by a number of implementation plans for the management of special waste streams (biodegradable, packaging). Establishing economic instruments and financial mechanisms is necessary in order to ensure a system for domestic and foreign investment in long-term sustainable activities. The aim of this co-authorial work is also a warning that state institutions should, in a clear and measurable manner, monitor their own progress in the process of EU accession. A special chapter should refer to the dynamics of regulation and the development of institutional capacities and needs in the area of waste management, with the appropriate application of economic instruments in the ecosafety system.
