Abstract

The goal of intermodal and multimodal transport is the fastest and the most cost-effective connection of production and consumption. This is accomplished by the transport process called transport of goods by "door to door". These transport technologies are of great use in the European Union and they form the backbone of the transport strategy in the extreme case and transport policy of the European Union. They provide the fastest, most economical, the shortest and most efficient transport route between production and consumption. Additionally prevent negative trend in transportation of certain goods transport industry as it is rail and river transport. And favoring the development of intermodal and multimodal transportation comes to the development of industry, the development of transfer and handling capacity, reducing the negative impact of transport on the environment, etc. Due to its geopolitical and geographical position of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a space of their importance for the development of intermodal and multimodal transport. Development potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina makes connections with Pan-European Corridor V (via Corridor Vc), Corridor X (via Parallels Corridor X), corridor VII (across the river Sava times and links to the Danube), sea ports in the Adriatic (Ploce, Rijeka, Bar , Koper and Trieste), river ports (Brcko, Samac and Vukovar) and other inland waterways.
