Most of the transport and distribution water supply pipelines are located under or near the roads. Appearance of real (physical) losses may directly effect on the traffic safety. This paper elaborated possible negative effects of water leakage from water supply system on traffic safety and the entire road infrastructure and presented the methodology recommended by the International Water Association (IWA), which allows to determine the structure and values of all water losses types, calculate performance indicators which represent managing quality with water supply system and detect positions of leaks. In the paper is also presented an analysis which shows how many water supply pipelines are positioned near the roads and city streets in five municipalities in Central Bosnia, where water losses reduction actions during 2011th and 2012th were performed. Based on results of this project and by using interpolation method, statistically is calculated number of water leaks locations which are positioned under or near roads in 5 municipalities.
