Bosnia and Herzegovina faces challenges regarding the sustainable use of natural resources. The paper analyzes the state and trends in the development of the vehicle fleet in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the period from 2015 to 2024, with a particular focus on their impact on the environment. The results indicate a significant increase in the number of registered motor vehicles, as well as the dominance of vehicles with internal combustion engines, especially diesel-powered ones. A particular concern is the unfavorable age structure of the vehicle fleet, given that the majority of vehicles are older than 10 years and lack modern emission control systems. Emissions of harmful gases such as CO₂, NOx, and SO₂, as well as particulate matter (PM), significantly contribute to air pollution and have negative effects on public health. In addition, road transport is a major source of noise in urban areas. These findings point to the need for modernization of the vehicle fleet and for encouraging the population to adopt alternative modes of transport.
