Abstract

Forest fires represent one of the most significant environmental accidents of the modern era, as they cause great damage to forest ecosystems, biodiversity and the environment for healthy living. Their occurrence can be the result of natural factors, such as high temperatures, drought and lightning strikes, but also anthropogenic activities, such as human negligence, illegal burning of waste and premeditated fire-setting. The consequences of forest fires are reflected in land degradation, destruction of flora and fauna, increased emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere and disruption of the ecological balance. The aim of this paper is to analyze the causes of forest fires, their natural and social consequences, as well as measures for prevention, protection and rehabilitation of affected areas. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of timely monitoring, education of the population, application of modern technologies for fire detection and sustainable management of forest resources. Efficient forest protection and preservation of the natural environment requires coordinated action by competent institutions, experts and local communities, in order to reduce the risk of fire and ensure the long-term sustainability of forest ecosystems.
