The power sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing complex challenges in the process of energy transition, including alignment with the European Union acquis, decarbonization, and integration of renewable energy sources. This paper analyzes key regulatory, market, and technical aspects of renewable energy integration, with particular focus on power system stability and the system’s ability to accommodate increased variability in generation. Special attention is given to challenges related to the implementation of the existing regulatory framework, as well as limitations in the application of market mechanisms and coordination among different levels of system operation. The paper highlights the importance of regulatory harmonization and consistent application of technical standards, especially within the complex institutional structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Based on the analysis and findings from previous research, the need for the deployment of advanced technological solutions is identified, including real-time monitoring systems, forecasting tools, and flexibility management platforms. In conclusion, the paper demonstrates that successful integration of renewable energy sources in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires simultaneous improvement of the regulatory framework, development of market mechanisms, and application of advanced technologies, supported by enhanced coordination among all relevant stakeholders.
