The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled the transformation of static urban infrastructure into dynamic systems that react in real time. This paper explores the application of IoT sensor networks in two key segments: smart parking systems and adaptive traffic signaling. By analyzing data from real-world implementations in the cities of Santander (ES) and Barcelona (ES) and synthesizing research findings, a measurable contribution to CO₂ emission reduction is demonstrated. The results indicate a 16% reduction in annual emissions per vehicle and a 76% reduction in parking search time in smart parking infrastructure zones. The integration of LoRaWAN and NB-IoT networks with AI analytics platforms can reduce city congestion by up to 25%, making IoT an indispensable tool for achieving climate neutrality goals by 2050.
