The circular saw occupies a special place in the processes of cutting materials in a cold state ("cold saws"), as well as materials that are cut when heated to very high temperatures ("hot saws"). Hot saws cut off materials with different mechanical properties, various cross-sectional shapes, dimensions and positions on transport rollers. The saw blade is the most important part of a hot saw and represents a model of a rotating, thin, homogeneous plate structure. During the profile cutting process, the saw blade is exposed to variable resistances that cause different stress-deformation states in its structure, especially in the contact zone. The aim of this work is to confirm the hypothesis by strain gauge measurements that the stress-strain state of a thin saw blade plate mimics the so-called Flamant problem, which can be interpreted through the Hertz solution of the contact stress.
