By doing a preventive control of vehicles correctness we determined that a significant number of vehicles has faulty shock absorbers, which refers to reduced damping efficiency and asymmetry of the front and rear axle of the vehicle. Based on these finds and in dependency of shock absorbers’ condition an examination of vehicles’ breaking distance was done, and we determined that the correstness condition of shock absorbers has a significant influence on breaking distance value. Based on the research results, a relationship between the braking distance of a vehicle and the state of its shock absorbers, velocity of the vehicle and the ambient temperature was determined. Emphasis was put on determining the relationship of the braking distance and the efficiency of the shock absorber. The results showed with an increase in damper efficiency the braking distance decreases, which increases overall reliability of the vehicle and its safety in traffic.
