Transport, as a specific economic activity, with its quality and adaptability significantly contributes to the design and valorisation of space, the preservation of the environment and nature, and the overall economic and social development. In addition, multimodal transport, as a movement of goods in a single and unique transport unit or vehicle that successfully uses two or more modes of transport without the removal of goods in changing modes of transport in appropriate combinations, profits from all the advantages of individual transport branches or more along with the simultaneous and numerous advantages of modern transport technology, such as palletization, containerization, RO-RO, LO-LO, RO-LO, FO-FO, Huckepack and Bimodal transport technologies. The paper presents some possibilities of organizing environmentally acceptable transport models that ensure the transport of goods and people in a fast, safe and rational mode and in an environmentally sound manner. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of modern transport technologies, which significantly contributes to ensuring high standards of protection and preserving the environment. Conclusions and recommendations are aimed at policy makers and development decision makers to include methods for evaluating the benefits and costs of modern technological solutions and multimodal transport when looking at transport infrastructure in the analysis of possible opportunities that indicate long-term sustainable and environmentally acceptable transport means and transport solutions
